Michaels was recently investigated by the New York Attorney General and that investigation resulted in a $1.8 million settlement. The settlement stemmed from "deceptive advertising practices," where Michaels offered continuous 50-percent discounts on custom framing over the course of 104 consecutive weeks. Continuous sales are prohibited by law. Investigators throughout the state of New York collected newspaper flyers, online flyers, in-store banners and signs advertising the custom framing every day for two years.
As part of the settlement, the company will change advertising practices and will be required to give back to the public schools in the communities where their stores are located. The schools will receive $1 million in gift cards to purchase supplies.
I know that it's tempting when you see these sales to think that you are getting a good deal and I can tell you that it pays to compare.

ReplyDeleteI agree. We are only a few blocks from Michaels and we get unhappy customers all the time. They compare our prices to Michaels "sale" price and we are very close.
