It can’t be called work, it has to be called something else! The word “work” denotes negativity to me. Lets call it play! Instead of considering it a negative experience, we can "choose" to think of it differently. It’s either hate your job and pull yourself and everyone around you down, or think of your job as a vast playground of opportunity to have some fun, make someone’s day, be present and engaging with others…..a chance to choose and practice a positive attitude.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? If so, you guessed it, I just read “Fish” by Stephen C. Lundin, Ph.D., Harry Paul and John Christensen. It’s a powerful parable with the lesson that “you can love the work you do even if you can’t always do work that you love.” The book is a short read packed with plausible advice to apply to your work experience and even other aspects of your life!
If you are searching for a way to pump up your work experience, or change your attitude away from toxic thoughts and behaviors, then this book is a must read to get you on the right path. There’s enough stress in this world without our work places being a big negative part of our lives. I am fortunate to have a very positive work environment, yet this book showed me how to make it even better! If you have already read “Fish” or you get the opportunity to read it soon, let me know your thoughts! Did it move you to choose a new attitude?
